about us

About our Centre

The Alternative Therapies Centre was founded in 1988, at 52 Stoke Newington Church Street, by hypnotherapist and author Jo Sheridan, who has been in practice since the early 1960s. Her purpose was to offer a wide range of therapeutic treatments by qualified practitioners to the people of Hackney and surrounding areas. Jo and her husband Alfred Douglas retired to Rye in East Sussex in September 2002 to concentrate on other projects, and the respected therapist Nona Abdeen, assisted by counsellor Peter Beverley, relaunched the Alternative Therapies Centre at new premises located at 285 Hoxton Street, N1. The Centre is licensed by the London Borough of Hackney , under the London Local Authorities Act 1991, to carry out massage and special treatments, and we now have over 20 experienced therapists offering their services from our premises. We have had an internet website since July 1997.
