Hopi Ear Candles

The Hopi culture is centred on Arizona, in the South West of the United States, and has a body of healing traditions that go back many centuries. These include the use of candles for healing purposes. Such candles were also used in ancient Greece, and today are to be found in the Mediterranean areas, Lation and North America, Africa and Australasia.

The Biosun candles used at this Centre are manufactured in Germany and are based on the traditional Hopi candle form.

The candles' ingredients are:
100% pure beeswax
Honey extracts
Sage
St John's Wort
Chamomile
Beta-Carotene (Vitamin A)
Pesticide free woven cotton

The cylindrical candles are about 22cm long and 0.5cm in diameter, and are hollow. They each contain a filter which prevents residues from the candle from entering the ear.

How the candles are said to work:
The candle is lit, and gradually its ingredients vaporise and are drawn, by convection, down the hollow centre of the candle into the outer portion of the ear. The herbal vapours circulate within the external parts of the ear, soothing irritation, softening wax, stimulating blood supply, massaging the ear drum by gentle suction, helping the lymph glands and immune system to function efficiently.

Note: Hopi Ear Candles should not be used in the following instances:
If the ear drum is perforated
The outer ear is inflamed or infected
Any drainage device is in place in the ear drum
If the client is allergic to any of the ingredients of the candle
If the client is under specific medical supervision
If a course of antibiotics or other medication is being followed
If major dental work has left the face and jaw sore
